Hi there I was hoping you may be able to help me. I have two Tolken books, The two Towers and The Return Of The King, that are exacly the same as the two red covered editions pictured. Im unsure of what editions thay are though Im very aware that there old.
They were given to me by my father along time ago and though I did read them, Tolkes work is not a fav of mine.
Could you tell me what edition thay maybe and there possible value. Both editions are published by George Allen and Unwin and are in very good condition.

The first editions AND second editions ( see http://www.themoment.co.uk/tolkien/books-by-tolkien/middle-earth-related/lord-of-the-rings/complete-sets/the-lord-of-the-rings-revised-second-edition/) have the same red covers I think - so without the dust-jacket you’d need to look inside and see if they have a date and edition/impression inside. These editions appear on eBay regularly - have a look and you’ll see that the value depends very much on condition (dust-jackets are important..!) and how early the impressions are. So a 1st impression of the Second Edition may well fetch more than a late edition of the First.
