Frequently Asked Questions -
Where can I get this Tolkien-style font?
The font that is used for headings here is called ‘Tolkienesque Regular’. Click the link Tolkien Fonts to download the typeface (Truetype).
‘What’s happened to your old site?’
I’ve changed it to a Wordpress-powered site, hopefully making it easier to update, and making it easier to leave comments about specific items. It’s in the process of being copied over, so some categories are empty right now, but should be filled up again soon I hope.
‘Are items in this collection for sale?’
If the price is right, I could be persuaded to part with some of the items listed on this site. But I’m not going to split up the collection for pennies, and I’m not likely to break up sets like the ‘History of Middle-earth’ series. Especially since volume 12 (’Peoples of Middle-earth’) is quite rare and regularly changes hands for $500 or more.
Having said that, if you see something you are desperate to own, make me an offer and I will definately consider it.
I won’t have time to reply to everyone, so if you don’t hear back from me within a couple of weeks you can safely assume I won’t be taking you up on your offer. Sorry, but this is very much a spare time hobby.
‘How much is my [insert Tolkien collectable here] worth?’
Well, the short answer is - I have no idea. I’m not a dealer, and hardly ever buy any Tolkien stuff second-hand these days. I’d guess it’s only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. A pretty good guide is to search on Ebay (or equivalent) and see if any identical items have recently been listed. If you know the ISBN number then try putting just that in the search box and ticking the ‘titles and descriptions’ box - some sellers are good enough to include that kind of detail.
Search the ‘completed items’ listings so you can be sure that the item actually sold. There’s loads of ridiculously (or optimistically) priced books listed over and over, and they just never sell. Also, be sure you are honest about the actual condition of your book - a tatty copy is naturally worth a tiny fraction of a good one.
‘I emailed / left a comment and you haven’t replied’
Three possible reasons. Firstly, I haven’t bothered to check my messages. Secondly, I’ve read your message, but I just haven’t got round to replying yet. And thirdly (and most likely), I don’t know the answer to your question, or I’m not interested in selling the thing you asked about.
‘Do you mind if I leave a comment anyway?’
No, I don’t mind at all. Feel free to post a message or a question. If I can help, and have the time, I will. In any event, it’s nice to see who’s passing through…
‘Can I leave a link to my wholly unrelated site, and leave a message like ‘Hey, great post’ ?’
Well if you must. But I check the comments before they appear, so I doubt I’ll let it through.
‘Your site isn’t working / links are broken / comment form gone screwy’
Bummer. Maybe try an email and I’ll try and fix things if I can be bothered.
‘I still haven’t found what I’m looking for’
Oh dear, that’s very sad. But cheer up. Even though I don’t seem to have the item you’re after, there are shedloads of other sites out there.
Here are some links for you to try:
www.tolkienshop.com
www.tolkienlibrary.com
‘Can I have my own link added to that list up there’
Go for it.
Drop me a line and we can do a swap.
That’s on condition you’re not peddling smut or suchlike you rascal you.
